This display module works with various microcontrollers to render Chinese characters, English letters and graphics, supporting the development of Chinese graphical human-machine interaction interfaces. Featuring low power consumption and rich display content, it is widely adopted across multiple industries.
The screen relies on processed liquid crystal to alter light propagation direction. Electric current excites liquid crystal molecules to form dots, lines and planes, which together with the backlight create complete images. It boasts a resolution of 128×64.
It integrates a 2-Mbit Chinese Character Generator ROM (CGROM) storing 8192 16×16 dot-matrix Chinese characters, plus a 16-Kbit Half-width Character ROM (HCROM) containing 128 sets of 16×8 dot-matrix ASCII characters, enabling display of 8 columns × 4 rows of 16×16 Chinese characters.
The ST7920 Character Generator RAM (CGRAM) supports custom character creation, offering storage space for 4 groups of 16×16 dot-matrix custom fonts. Users write character codes to the Display Data RAM (DDRAM); the hardware then fetches corresponding font patterns from CGROM and outputs them on screen.
The Graph RAM allocates 64×32 bytes as a 2D drawing buffer, which controls a 256×64 dot-matrix drawing area.
Multiple interface options are available: 4-bit / 8-bit parallel (compatible with M6800 timing), 2-wire serial and 3-wire serial.
Internally, the LCD12864 module consists of an LCD panel, controller, driver and bias voltage generation circuit.
