Description

Maxim Integrated announces the launch of the MAX98357 and MAX98358 digital-input Class D audio power amplifiers, enabling designers to implement compact, efficient, plug-and-play solutions at a high cost-performance ratio. Despite their small form factor, these devices deliver 3.2W of Class AB audio quality with Class D amplifier efficiency, achieving exceptional high-fidelity sound suitable for a wide range of applications.
The MAX98357 (Pulse-Code Modulation, PCM) and MAX98358 (Pulse-Density Modulation, PDM) plug-and-play speaker amplifiers fully leverage Maxim’s flexible pinout arrangement. Compared to typical analog amplifier solutions, they drastically reduce the bill of materials (BOM) count, significantly shrinking overall solution size. As most users control volume via digital up/down commands, these features allow designers to take full advantage of Maxim’s cost-effective Wafer-Level Package (WLP), eliminating the need for costly PCB vias.
To deliver superior audio quality, the devices feature high noise-immunity digital inputs with excellent jitter tolerance (at least 8dB better than competing solutions). They also offer exceptional Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) suppression, allowing long speaker cable runs without requiring additional external filtering. Furthermore, these amplifiers deliver industry-leading Class D efficiency.
